MTFR MAKES RESCUE AT HOUSE FIRE
Wed. Dec 23rd 2009

Right around dinner time, phones at the Lancaster 9-1-1 Center began ringing for a reported house fire in Manheim Township. The tones began dropping sending units to 102 W. Roseville Rd. All the callers for this assignment reported seeing "heavy fire" venting from the front and side of the home. No one could confirm if anyone was home.

Not long after units began "checking up", Squad 2-4-1 (Eden), which was staffed by FF's Matt Adams and Chris Mowery, was on the air and not far away. They arrived and reported heavy fire showing from Side Delta. Chief 272 (Slaymaker), also arrived at this time and was met by neighbors reporting a handicapped person lived in the home but it was unconfirmed if the patient had made it out of the house. LCWC was advised to alert incoming units of possible entrapment. FF's Adams and Mowery immediately made entry into the house with nothing more then a water can to begin a search. FF  Mowery found the fire and began to attempt a knockdown in order to protect FF Adams while he was searching. At this point FF's Mowery and Adams were joined by Chief 67 (Rohrerstown), Dusty Dommel and FF, Nikki Molina-Crispo from Eden to help with the search. FF Molina-Crispo located the patient still in the home and removed the patient out the Charlie side of the house. The patient was unconscious, but breathing and was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, then later flown to Chester Crozier Burn Center. The condition of the patient is not known at this time.

While the rescue effort was in progress, The crew from Engine 2-7-1 pulled a hand line and finished extinguishing the remaining fire. Additional engines were requested from Lancaster Twp. and Lafayette to assist at the fire scene. Transfers to the Manheim Twp. firehouses included engines from Lancaster Twp., Lafayette, and Brunnerville. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
